One of the leading forces behind the resurgence of jazz-influenced sounds in the UK, Nubya Garcia is a London-based saxophonist and composer.
Raised in a creative environment nurtured by a set of Caribbean parents, her brand of Afro-tinged jazz has made her a key component in a string of new and established groups: from work with MOBO Award-winning drummer, Moses Boyd, legendary jungle producer and toaster, Congo Natty, through to her own works as part of six-piece, Maisha, and the Nérija septet.
She released her ‘Nubya’s 5ive’ EP on jazz re:freshed last year. It’s an introduction to her explorative, jazz-rooted sound, bringing hip-hop and soul influences into her groove-led sound. It’s shaped by her plentiful experience of playing London’s underground live circuit, sharing stages and rehearsal rooms with endless new formations of her longstanding friends and co-creators.
